THE GRACE OF ADOPTION -John 1:12
THE GRACE OF ADOPTION
Text: John 1:12
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
INTRODUCTION
Beloved, one of the greatest revelations of the Christian faith is not just that God saves, but that God adopts.
Salvation brings us out of sin, but adoption brings us into sonship.
Grace did not merely rescue us from hell—it brought us into the family of God.
Many people know God as Creator. Some know Him as Judge. But few truly walk in the power of knowing Him as Father.
Today, the Lord is opening our eyes to understand THE GRACE OF ADOPTION.
1. WHAT IS THE GRACE OF ADOPTION?
Adoption is the act of God, by His grace, taking those who were once strangers, sinners, and outsiders—and making them His own children.
John 1:12 says:
“As many as received Him… He gave them the right…”
Adoption is not earned.
Adoption is not deserved.
Adoption is not by works.
It is GRACE.
You were not voted into God’s family.
You were not recommended.
You were not qualified.
Grace qualified you.
2. FROM STRANGERS TO SONS
Before Christ:
-
We were far from God
-
We were under sin
-
We were without hope
-
We were spiritually orphaned
But grace stepped in.
Adoption means:
-
You are no longer abandoned
-
You are no longer rejected
-
You are no longer an outsider
You are now:
-
A child of God
-
A member of God’s household
-
A heir of God’s promises
Grace changed your status.
3. ADOPTION IS RECEIVED, NOT ACHIEVED
John 1:12 says:
“As many as received Him…”
Grace must be received.
You don’t work for adoption.
You don’t suffer for adoption.
You don’t struggle for adoption.
You believe, and you receive.
The moment you received Christ:
-
Heaven rewrote your identity
-
God signed your adoption papers
-
The Holy Spirit sealed your sonship
No devil can cancel what grace has established.
4. THE RIGHTS OF ADOPTION
The Bible says He gave us the right to become children of God.
Adoption gives you rights:
-
The right to call God Father
-
The right to divine access
-
The right to divine provision
-
The right to divine protection
-
The right to divine inheritance
If you are a child, you are not a beggar.
If you are a child, you are not forsaken.
If you are a child, you are not powerless.
Grace has given you spiritual authority.
5. ADOPTION HEALS REJECTION
Many believers are saved but still live like orphans.
They pray with fear.
They serve with insecurity.
They worship with doubt.
But grace says:
“You belong.”
Adoption heals:
-
Rejection
-
Low self-worth
-
Fear of abandonment
-
Identity crisis
When you understand adoption, you stop trying to impress God and start trusting Him.
6. ADOPTION PRODUCES CONFIDENCE
A servant is afraid of punishment.
A child is confident of love.
Adoption teaches us:
-
God corrects us in love
-
God provides without pressure
-
God defends His children
-
God never abandons His own
Grace removes fear and replaces it with boldness.
7. LIVING AS SONS AND DAUGHTERS
Grace did not adopt us so we could live defeated.
Grace adopted us so we could:
-
Walk in holiness
-
Walk in authority
-
Walk in love
-
Walk in obedience
-
Walk in victory
You don’t live holy to become a child.
You live holy because you are a child.
CONCLUSION
Beloved, hear this clearly:
You are not tolerated—you are accepted.
You are not managed—you are loved.
You are not forgotten—you are chosen.
The grace of adoption has brought you home.
Stand tall.
Pray boldly.
Live confidently.
Serve joyfully.
You are a child of God—by grace.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for the grace of adoption.
I receive the revelation of sonship.
Every orphan spirit is broken in my life.
I walk boldly as Your child.
I claim my rights, inheritance, and authority.
I live to please You as a son/daughter of the Most High.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
