KNOWING GOD BEYOND THE SURFACE -Philippians 3:10, Jeremiah 9:23-24

SERMON: Knowing God Beyond the Surface
Text: Philippians 3:10 (not 3:30) & Jeremiah 9:23-24

INTRODUCTION

Many know about God, but few truly know Him. There is a difference between hearing of God and encountering God. There is a difference between religion and relationship. God is not calling us to be church-goers alone, He is calling us to be God-knowers—men and women who walk with Him, hear Him, understand His ways and carry His presence.

SCRIPTURE READING

Philippians 3:10

“That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings…”

Jeremiah 9:23-24

“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom… but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me…”

KNOWING GOD BEYOND THE SURFACE MEANS:

1. Moving from Head Knowledge to Heart Experience

Many have information about God but no encounter with Him.
You can memorize scripture and still not know the God of scripture.
The Pharisees knew the law, but they did not know the Lord.

To know God is to experience Him personally.

2. Pursuing God, Not Just His Blessings

Some follow God only when they need a miracle.
Some worship God only when things are going well.
But Paul said:

“That I may know Him…”
Not that I may collect from Him.

The true seeker says:
“Lord, even if You don’t bless me today, I still desire You.”

3. Knowing God Requires Intimacy

Intimacy comes from:

  • Time in His presence

  • Prayer that goes beyond requests into deep communion

  • Worship that is not rushed

  • Studying the Word with hunger and expectation

You cannot know God deeply by giving Him leftover time.

4. Knowing God Transforms Your Life

When you truly know God:

  • Sin loses power over you

  • Fear loses its grip

  • Purpose becomes clear

  • Your character changes

  • Your confidence becomes rooted in Him

Moses knew God beyond the surface — and His face shined.
Daniel knew God — and lions could not touch him.
Paul knew God — and nothing could stop him.

Deep relationship makes a dangerous believer. 🔥

HOW TO KNOW GOD BEYOND THE SURFACE

  1. Desire Him sincerely (Psalm 42:1)

  2. Spend quality time in prayer and worship

  3. Study and meditate on the Word daily

  4. Obey His voice without delay

  5. Walk in holiness and humility

  6. Stay consistent even when you don’t “feel” anything

God reveals Himself to seekers, not visitors.

CONCLUSION

God is calling us deeper.
Beyond church attendance…
Beyond religious activity…
Into intimate relationship.

The greatest pursuit of your life should be to know Him.

PRAYER

Lord, give me a deeper hunger to know You beyond the surface.
Draw me into intimacy with Your Spirit.
Reveal Yourself to me in ways that transform my life.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
