Sons of the kingdom of God….Matthew 13:38, 8:12
Introduction
Beloved, today we will explore a profound truth: our identity as sons of the Kingdom of God. In Matthew 13:38, Jesus says, “the good seed are the sons of the kingdom.” This means that every believer in Christ is God’s seed planted on the earth to bring forth fruit. But in Matthew 8:12, Jesus also warns that “the sons of the kingdom will be cast into outer darkness”—showing us that being called a son comes with responsibility, accountability, and the need to remain aligned with God’s will.
The difference between those who will shine as sons and those who will be cast out lies in understanding our identity, walking in obedience, and manifesting the character of the kingdom.
1. The Identity of the Sons of the Kingdom
-
Sons of the kingdom are not ordinary people. They are carriers of divine life.
-
John 1:12 declares: “As many as received Him, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God.”
-
You are not just a churchgoer; you are a seed of heaven planted on earth.
-
Your identity is rooted in Christ: you are born of God, redeemed by the blood, and empowered by the Spirit.
✅ Declaration: I am a son of the kingdom, not a slave to fear, sin, or the devil.
2. The Character of the Sons of the Kingdom
Being a son is not just about title, but about character.
-
Sons walk in righteousness. (1 John 3:7 – He that does righteousness is righteous).
-
Sons walk in obedience. Jesus Himself, the Son of God, said, “I came not to do My will but the will of Him who sent Me.”
-
Sons walk in love and service. They reflect the Father’s nature by showing compassion, forgiveness, and humility.
✅ Challenge: Ask yourself today—do I reflect the character of my Father, or am I living like a stranger to His kingdom?
3. The Authority of the Sons of the Kingdom
-
Sons are not beggars; they are rulers and ambassadors of heaven.
-
Romans 8:19 says: “The earnest expectation of creation eagerly waits for the manifestation of the sons of God.”
-
You carry the authority of your Father! That means you can decree and it shall be established (Job 22:28).
-
Sons bring heaven’s influence to earth—healing the sick, casting out devils, speaking truth, and advancing the gospel.
✅ Declaration: I carry kingdom authority—I am planted to rule and to bring forth fruit.
4. The Warning to Sons of the Kingdom (Matthew 8:12)
Jesus warns that “the sons of the kingdom will be cast into outer darkness”—this refers to Israel rejecting the Messiah, but it is also a spiritual warning for us today.
-
Familiarity without obedience can disqualify.
-
Title without transformation leads to darkness.
-
Not everyone in the house of God truly belongs to Him—sons must guard their relationship with Christ.
✅ Exhortation: Do not take the grace of sonship for granted. Live worthy of the calling you have received.
5. The Inheritance of the Sons of the Kingdom
-
Sons have an eternal inheritance (Romans 8:17 – heirs of God, joint-heirs with Christ).
-
Sons of the kingdom have access to peace, joy, victory, and eternal life.
-
Sons have the assurance of reigning with Christ in His glory.
Conclusion
Beloved, being a son of the kingdom is both a privilege and a responsibility. You are God’s seed, planted with purpose, destined to manifest His glory. Do not live below your identity. Walk in righteousness, exercise your authority, and guard your inheritance.
The world is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God—rise up and shine as a true son of the kingdom!
